Senate confirms Fowler as FIRS boss

The Senate yesterday confirmed the appointment of Dr. Williams Babatunde Fowler as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The confirmation was sequel to a report of the Senate Committee on Finance chaired by Senator John Owan Enoh (PDP, Cross River Central).

The committee weeks ago screened Fowler. In his remarks, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki congratulated Fowler and stressed that taxation is very key to the development of the country.

While expressing dismay that Nigeria was one of the lowest countries on taxation, he hoped that Fowler would change the tide.

“I also want to say that in the future appointment such as NCC, FIRS and other that required the approval of the Senate, the appointees should wait to get the approval of the Senate before they resume office,” Saraki said.
