The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance consumer protection and eliminate regulatory gaps in the telecommunications sector.
This partnership aims to promote fair competition, prevent exploitative practices, and ensure a level playing field for all stakeholders.
The MoU signing ceremony, which took place on January 14, 2025, was attended by key officials from both organizations.
Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, emphasized the importance of collaboration between regulatory bodies, particularly in the rapidly evolving telecommunications sector .
The partnership is expected to streamline regulatory oversight, reduce regulatory uncertainty, and create clarity for all stakeholders in the communications sector.
It will also foster harmonious collaboration between the NCC and FCCPC, ensuring robust consumer protection, fair competition, and the eradication of exploitative practices .
This development is consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of fostering economic growth through regulatory collaboration, enhanced market efficiency, and prioritizing consumer welfare.
The partnership is also in line with Section 105 of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, which mandates cooperation and collaboration between the FCCPC and sector regulators.
