NGX Chairman Emphasizes Media’s Role in Banking Recapitalization

The Chairman of the NGX Group, Alhaji (Dr) Umaru Kwairanga, has highlighted the critical role of the media in the banking recapitalization exercise.

Speaking at the 2024 CAMCAN Workshop, Dr. Kwairanga noted that the media, through the Capital Markets Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CAMCAN), plays a vital role in facilitating the dissemination of timely and accurate information to investors.

He emphasized that the daily publication of the All Share Index and publicity given to all capital market activities by CAMCAN helps keep the capital market in the public eye, ensuring its sustainability.

The workshop, themed “Recapitalisation: Bridging the Gap between investors and issuers,” aimed to provide insights into the recapitalization exercise, its shortcomings, and areas for improvement.

Dr. Kwairanga also highlighted the NGX Group’s role in the recapitalization exercise, including organizing Facts Behind the Offer ceremonies and setting up X Rails, a technology platform for investors to subscribe to ongoing offers.

He assured that the Nigerian Exchange would ensure that banks meet their disclosure requirements promptly and fully, keeping investors informed about the use of their funds.
