The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has directed eight electricity Distribution companies (Discos) to explain in seven days why they failed to actively implement the Credited Advance Payment for Metering Implementation (CAPMI).

A statement issued by NERC Head Public Affairs, Dr Usman Arabi yesterday said the commission was dissatisfied with the level of implementation of the CAPMI by majority of the Discos prompting a commencement of an enforcement action for non-compliance.

The utilities are Port Harcourt, Abuja, Yola and Enugu. Others are Ibadan, Ikeja, Eko and Benin Discos with a warning.

An official said Discos with unsatisfactory report would be sanctioned by forcing them to immediately meter customers who had paid for meters under the scheme in the past 45 days alongside any other penalty as deemed by NERC.
