The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has called on state governors to partner with the commission in developing telecom infrastructure in Nigeria.

Speaking at a recent roundtable meeting, Dr. Maida emphasized the need for state governments to support the operationalization and enforcement of telecom assets as critical infrastructure.

Dr. Maida requested state governments to adopt a 100% Right of Way (RoW) waiver, with clear Service Level Agreement (SLA) timelines for approvals.

He also urged state governments to institutionalize coordination between road/public works and operators, and to publish standard processes, timelines, and fees.

Dr. Maida suggested the creation of state digital infra funds/incentives to crowd in private fibre in rural or underserved areas.

The NCC plans to launch two strategic tools:
A one-stop-shop for information and links to Nigeria’s 36 states and FCT. A framework to measure and publish annually each state’s digital readiness and competitiveness.
