FG urges private sector to commercialise 1000 research findings

The Federal Government has called on the organised private sector to help commercialise numerous research findings and innovations by its institutes. There are more than 1000 research findings and innovations on the shelves of ministry of science and technology 17 research agencies across the country, according to the minister Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

Dr Onu told a delegation of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry led by its President Mr Tony Ejinkeonye in Abuja yesterday that only the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO) has more than 250 innovations ready for adoption and commercialization by entrepreneurs.

He noted particularly that the fall in oil revenue in the global market has created a great opportunity for Nigeria to now diversify its economy and that the ministry has a pivotal role to play in this regard.

The minister reiterated the readiness of the ministry to partner with stake holders to follow the pattern established with a Jos based entrepreneur who signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ministry to commercialize and mass produce a high nutrient density biscuits formulated to meet the daily requirements of children between the ages 5-12 years.
