Federal Government to Introduce Green Bond


The Federal Government is planning to create a Green Bonds, this was disclosed by the Minister of Environment Mrs Amina J. Mohammed during a visit to the Nigerian Stock Exchange and closing of the Gong in Lagos. She said the minister of finance will come out with the details of the bond.

The minister who had earlier met with top executives of companies that are listed on the Exchange said the concerns of the business operators was on security and favourable policies that will engender growth and job creation. She said her visit to the NSE is to reiterate Federal Government commitment to sustainable use and management of the environment in the fight against poverty and food security.

In order to achieve these, she added that the ministry of environment requires a cooperative business approach with the private sector. Pointing out that the ministry is putting together framework and platform geared towards tackling the challenges posed by climate change such as desertification, waste management and oil spillage in the Niger delta region.

On his part the Doyen of the day Alhaji Rasheed Yusuf thanked the minister for her visit, while he urged her to be the capital market ambassador by preaching about the market to her cabinet colleagues. The Chief Executive Officer of the NSE Oscar Onyema, said as part of their sustainability progamme they need to provide the platform for the minister to discuss with organisations listed across all the sectors of the market.
