The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency has expressed willingness to partner the Bureau of Public Enterprises to re-establish the national shipping line. The Director-General, NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, who made this known when he played host to his counterpart in the BPE, Mr. Alex Okoh, at the headquarters of the agency in Lagos on Monday.
Stated that shipping to an extent defined the growth trajectory of any nation, especially in relation to seaborne commerce. Peterside, a statement by NIMASA said, noted that the greatest asset in the maritime space was the vessel itself and if there were no vessels, one could not be a major player.
Adding, "You can only be a major player in name, but in reality, you will not get maximum benefit from trade." He stated that the only way to guarantee the efficiency and effectiveness of shipping to add value to the economy was through the involvement of the private sector.Photo Caption: NIMASA LOGO
